Logo usage #9: Hotels and Resorts

Now, when you land somewhere after using the air travel services of one of the featured in the previous article and your ‘long time no see’ relative forgot about the exact date and time of your arrival, you don’t have much choice but to use some of the services of the featured in this one. The article could be narrowed down to the area of tourism on it’s own, but I decided to maybe leave a chance for some other analysis using only the hotels and resorts part for this subject. Some of you (lucky bastards) had an opportunity to try all of these and I am pretty sure that I left out a few that deserve the mention, but the basic idea was to show the spectrum of styles and inspiration elements designers use for these visual identities. What is interesting here as well is the fact that most of these agencies/companies re-branded recently and you can feel the new and very fresh taste of their communication even when browsing through their new and pretty nice websites. From retro to supermodern, from complex to megasimple, there is practically no exact trend or rule in this set and sometimes the identity offers something opposite to the service style or the hotel/resort overall experience (in the means of the conceptual balance with the architecture or the hotel interior for example). One way or the other, some of these logos are really great, so when you’re stealing those towels and god knows what from them make sure it’s applied all over that stuff!

So, should any of those re-brand? Feel free to comment on them, pick out your favorites, add links of some logos that also deserve to be in this company or do something even more crazy – tell us what would YOU change here to make them maybe more original and interesting. Enjoy!

The Radisson reminds me on the citroen picasso logo :D

I actually like most of them. Sofitel has a nice type.
The sheraton icon looks interesting too.

But what happened to the interContinental logo? It looks like a horroble condensed Trajan Pro :D
not really a fan of the hilton logo or the nh logo.. looks unispired to me :)

  2. Thanks again Dominic! Radisson observation is very interesting. I for example never liked the ‘g’ in Regent – what if the ‘R’ and ‘g’ were anyhow connected? It might be pulled off with a nice twirl at the connection section.

  3. Interesting field this is. A lot of good logos as well as lots of trash (let’s just say weaker logos).

From this list I really enjoy “The RITZ-Carlton” logo. Also, I’m a fan of “Golden Tulip” mark, however, I’m not exactly sure why that bar is under the type, it just ruins it for me. “Sofitel” has a nice type and I think it integrates into identity really well. “Radisson” logo is also pretty likable.

The worst of these logos (to me) are Hilton, InterContinental – they just seem so out-of-date…

The “Holiday Inn” looks pretty trendy to me – I don’t really like it.

  4. @ Dalius: new Hilton logo is one of the freshest redesigns in this field and a lot of people didn’t quite approve the new approach, so time will tell I guess. Thanks for sharing, Dalius!
