Logo usage #23: Olympics + Win MY NEST Sketchbook

To simply continue from the last time, the biggest and the most popular sport event on the planet are definitely the Olympic games. It has been 116 years since the first Summer one held in Athens, Greece and 86 years since the first Winter ones in Chamonix, France and from this year we witness the birth of first Summer Youth Olympics. The event is so strong that only a World War can cancel it (it happened 5 times overall). To host Olympics is a huge thing for the cities and nations and candidates have a lot of time to prepare their approach and strategy, so as mentioned in the previous article the important part of that project is event’s visual identity. On the left side you can see Winter Olympics logos (Albertville, Lillehammer, Nagano, Salt Lake, Torino and Vancouver) with the the freshest one for 2014 (Sochi) and a few candidates for the 2018 games. On the right side there are Summer Olympics logos (Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing) with the freshest ones for 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio) and a few candidates that lost the battle for 2016 host (Tokyo, Madrid, Chicago). You can notice that as we speak there are solutions ready for the 2018 and some of them on the table for the 2020 already. My point can be divided in 2 separate and important facts: 1) for the creation of the visual identity of the Olympics you have enormous amount of time b) the toughest part of the task is to create something that will visually stay ‘fresh and original’ enough even a decade in front.

So, should any of those re-brand? Feel free to comment on them, pick out your favorites, add links of some logos that also deserve to be in this company or do something even more crazy – tell us what would YOU change here to make them maybe more original and interesting. Enjoy!
