Logo usage #24: Heavy Equipment + Win MY NEST Sketchbook

During all the great sport events mentioned in previous articles we can all witness the great structures that make those events possible. From huge closed sports centers over giant stadiums to gigantic race tracks that can span over few kilometers in range there’s practically no limit in building monumental sport battlefields. And someone has to make sure that it’s doable. Since we already had the topic on construction itself I decided to analyze the logistics and support that make things ‘going’. The dynamic part of it all lays on the shoulders of heavy equipment of all kinds so I give you here 20 popular brands from that field. You probably heard of some of these before since they crushed the boundaries of their business fields and offered a wider range of products and services, for example Caterpillar in fashion or Hitachi in electronics. This equipment is usually rather large in dimensions yet we can notice the same influence on the logo solutions as before: the application aspects guided design processes towards simple and minimalistic solutions, usually in a form of a very clear typography based logos with the ‘industrial’ feel. Only 5 of these went with the originally designed marks and, what is also interesting, 12 of 20 use black or shades of gray for their visual identity. I strongly suggest visiting some of these brands websites, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

So, should any of those re-brand? Feel free to comment on them, pick out your favorites, add links of some logos that also deserve to be in this company or do something even more crazy – tell us what would YOU change here to make them maybe more original and interesting. Enjoy!

  1. CAT is my old good fave…Especially their short CAT version…
Was quite a surprise to find Liebherr here, since for me it’s always a fridge manufacturer.
And finally speaking of the logos – Linde is a great typography based logo, but it simply doesn’t call to mind all that heavy-duty stuff when seeing it.

  2. Au contrair, Luke! Please visit http://www.liebherr.com for more info, you’ll see that they are one of the biggest players in the field. :)
